Passing of Life Member Martin Donohue

It is with deep regret that the South Salem Fire Department has learned of the passing of Life Member Martin "Marty" Donohue on February 23, 2017, at his residence in Rhode Island. Marty was the quintessential American volunteer fireman. Never one to engage in disagreements or Department politics, Marty was content just to be a part of the organization and was always happy to help out with his smoking pipe in hand. Marty was a dedicated member responding to emergencies, participating in work details, serving as Captain of Engine Company 2 & 3, and serving many, many years as the Department's Vice President. Marty spent a career working as a Signal Maintainer for NYC Subway, he worked as a carpenter and was an legit all-around handyman. The firehouse was such an important part of Marty's life that even after retiring to Rhode Island he made a trip back to South Salem every summer to help at the annual carnival. Marty will be greatly missed and our thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Thank you so much for your kind words. My dad was everything you said and he was my hero. He touched so many lives and anyone who met him couldn't help but like him. He's was one of a kind and he will be missed.
