Ice Rescue Demonstration on Lake Truesdale
By 2nd Assistant Chief
February 12, 2022

On Saturday, February 12th, the Department performed an ice rescue demonstration on Lake Truesdale for the Kids Community Club of Lewisboro. Although temperatures were mild, there was still enough ice on the lake to make for a great demonstration.

Firefighters began the demonstration by explaining how ice rescue can be both difficult and dangerous and that no ice is considered safe when it comes to rescuing a victim that has fallen through the ice.

Firefighters also reviewed and then demonstrated the three methods they use for ice rescue; reach, throw and go methods. The demonstration concluded with a review of the Department’s rescue boat and equipment.

We would like to thank the Kids Community Club of Lewisboro for their continued support of the Department and for providing hot chocolate at the event. Also thank you to the Truesdale Estates Association for the use of their beach access.
