Members of the Department were invited to present last week at a “Workshop Wednesday” at John Jay High School. Approximately 20 students were present for firefighters reviewing some fire safety topics along with learning about how to become a volunteer firefighter in their community.

Students were given a tour of Rescue 21, the Department’s newest apparatus, which responds to all types of rescue calls including motor vehicle accidents. Students were able to practice using some of the tools themselves including the jaws of life, thermal imaging camera and stabilization struts.

The Department would like to thank John Jay High School for hosting this event and a special thanks to Patti Dente for coordinating the valuable opportunity for students to learn about the fire department. Students were also invited to an informational session scheduled for Thursday, November 17th at the South Salem Firehouse.
