| What had the possibility of being a long evening for South Salem Firefighters was quickly contained to the engine compartment of a vehicle in a detached garage. The tones went off at 5:50pm reporting a car fire in a structure on Rt. 35. Car 2452, who was working out at the firehouse gym, responded immediately and was on scene in less than a minute.
Initial size up by 2452 confirmed a vehicle fire next to another parked vehicle inside a detached garage. Car 2452 was able to knock down the main portion of the fire with an extinguisher, stopping any extension of fire. E-167 and T-2 arrived shortly after, making the short drive across street. Firefighters checked for extension of fire into the structure then overhauled the vehicle.
South Salem remained on scene as Westchester County Cause and Origin investigated the fire, narrowing down the cause and determining it accidental. |
