Crew 62 Participates in Local Scout Event
By Firefighter Mike Harris
March 5, 2011
On Saturday March 5th, the Muscoot District of the Westchester-Putnam County Boy Scouts of America, held their annual Cub Scout Klondike locally at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation. The South Salem Fire Department's Venture Crew 62 was asked to come and set up a station to be part of the competition between scout teams. The crew arrived early in Utility 79 to prepare for the day and set up a small obstacle course for the young scouts to compete in. The course consisted of the boys jumping in fire boots and jackets, both too large for them on purpose, and following their assigned hose under a barricade, zigzag through cones, end it by spraying a water can or throwing a rescue disc, then finishing up by following their hose back. The event was done in a relay fashion, based on the amount of scouts per team.
There was a constant flow of scouts at the station with everyone walking away happy. The members of the Venture Crew had just as much fun as the scouts, and they look forward to participating in more Muscoot District events in the future. Many thanks to the organizers of the event for the invitation.
