Sun Glare Causes Morning Rush Hour Accident
By 1st Assistant Chief Andrew Llewellyn
August 19, 2008
At 730am August 20th, members of the South Salem Fire Department were alerted to a motor vehicle accident at Rt. 35 and Mead St. Cars 2451 and 2452 responded immediately and were on scene in minutes.
Upon size up, Chief Posadas reported a 2-car accident with minor injuries. Rescue 21 arrived shortly thereafter and the crew went to work securing the vehicles and assisting LVAC with patient care. The North Salem Ambulance Corps were called mutual aid to the scene due to both of LVAC's ambulances being tied up on other calls. The driver of the Jeep Wrangler was transported to Northern Westchester Hospital with minor injuries while the driver of the pick up refused medical attention.
The morning rush on Rt. 35 was slowed as units operated at the scene. The accident was caused by sun glare.
South Salem units were clear in half an hour.
