May 14, 2023

On Sunday, May 14, 2023 at 3:07am, South Salem Firefighters, along with Croton Falls Fire Department on automatic aid, were dispatched by 60-Control to a reported structure fire on Pamela Lane in South Salem. Within minutes of responding, Car 2451 transmitted a 10-75 bringing in additional resources from surrounding Departments and agencies. Car 2451 and Car 2452 arrived on scene reporting a two story wood frame residence fully involved with fire.

Engine 166 arrived on scene minutes after and deployed its deluge gun and multiple hand lines with Tanker 2 supplying additional water. Several water sources were established along with portable ponds being deployed and a tanker shuttle operation led by Croton Falls Fire Department Car 2072 to supply additional water to the scene.

While firefighters were operating at the initial house fire, the Bedford Hills FAS Team observed that embers had caught the neighboring home across the street on fire. Katonah Fire Department Ladder 39 was already in place from the first fire and was able to readily deploy multiple hand lines, ground ladders as well as its aerial device to knock the fire down and prevent further damage. Resources were divided for the moment to contend with the second structure fire before additional firefighters arrived on scene to assist.

Both fires were subsequently extinguished and all mutual aid was released shortly after 7:00am.

Thank you to all our neighboring Departments and agencies that assisted at both fires including Croton Falls Fire Department, Bedford Hills Fire Department, Katonah Fire Department, Vista Fire Department, Goldens Bridge Fire Department, Pound Ridge Fire Department, Somers Fire Department, Yorktown Heights Fire Department, Ridgefield Fire Department (Relocate), Wilton Fire Department (Relocate), Westchester County DES Battalion 16 and Cause & Origin Team, Westchester EMS, Lewisboro VAC, New York State Police and Town of Lewisboro Building Department.
