| Today, we pause to remember September 11, 2001—a day that forever changed our nation and tested the courage of first responders everywhere. As members of the South Salem Fire Department, we stand in solidarity with the families and communities affected by the attacks, and we honor the 343 firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice that day. As with every year, we recognizes Firefighter Jeffrey J. Giordano of FDNY Ladder 3 and South Salem Fire Department Member, whose heroic actions and selfless dedication embody the values we hold dear: honor, respect, and service to others. The biblical truth rings especially true on this solemn day—"Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends." (John 15:13)
The South Salem Fire Department remains committed to the tradition and legacy of those who answered the call on that terrible morning. We remember not just the loss, but the resilience, bravery, and brotherhood that emerged from the ashes. We honor all first responders—past and present—who dedicate their lives to protecting their communities, and we pledge to carry forward the memory of those who "gave all." Today, we remember. We honor. We will never forget. |
