Heavy Snow Leads to Morning Extrication
By Capt. Avery Scott
December 31, 2008
A quick moving snow storm caused a single car accident on Spring Street South this morning. South Salem Firefighters received the call, which was upgraded to confirmed extrication by Pound Ridge Lt. Dodge. Cars 2451, 2452 and 2453 responded followed closely by Rescue 21 and Engine 168.
Upon arrival, observed was a single SUV that was resting on the driver's side after having rolled over.
The crew from Rescue 21 quickly went to work stabilizing the vehicle and setting up the extrication tools.
After stabilization, members removed the glass and then went to work cutting all the posts on the passenger's side. The sawzall was then utilized to cut the roof, from the passenger's side down. Finally South Salem members pulled the roof down and the victim was removed and handed over to LVAC and the Medic for packaging and transport. The extrication process was completed within 15 minutes.
South Salem Firefighters were assisted on scene by PRFD Lt. Dodge and BHFD Car 2032 (to be 2031 at midnight tonight).
