South Salem Trains to Implement Personal Bail-Out System
By 1st Assistant Chief Andrew Llewellyn
June 27, 2009
Six South Salem firefighters completed a two day "train-the-trainer" course at the Westchester County Fire Training Center in the use of the RIT Firefighter Escape System.
The training consisted of first educating the firefighters on the chosen RIT harness and system, followed by learning how to properly fit other firefighters with the harness. After completing class room training the firefighters proceeded to the training tower and from there the use of the bail-out system was practiced through repetition. The training was completed in steps gradually increasing in difficulty, with the final bail-out being completed while being blacked-out.
After completing the training, the now qualified firefighters will set up a training program to qualify all interior firefighters of the South Salem Fire Department in the use of the personal bail-out system.
