Car Fire on Rt. 35
By Lieutenant Avery Scott
April 2, 2008
On the morning of Tuesday, April 1st, members of the South Salem Fire Department were alerted to a car fire along Rt. 35 in the area of the firehouse. Cars 2452 (Posadas) and 2543 (A. Llewellyn) responded first and were on scene in minutes.
Upon arrival the chiefs found a mid-size SUV with smoke coming from the interior and under the hood. The chiefs utilized dry-chem extinguishers from their chief cars to quickly knock down a small fire underneath the glove box on the passenger's side.
Engine 167 arrived shortly after and disabled the battery and used a water can to extinguish some remaining embers.
All units were cleared within 20 minutes.
