South Salem Fire Department Open House 2009
By Lieutenant Matthew Yorke
October 13, 2009
On Saturday, October 10th, the South Salem Fire Department held its 3rd annual Open House from 11AM to 3PM. The event took place during national Fire Prevention Week and is meant to showcase to the community the fire department's apparatus and firehouse along with demonstrating the importance of fire prevention and safety.
This year's open house allowed attendees to watch as firefighters demonstrated their response to an automobile accident along with the process by which crash victims are removed from their vehicles. Children also received a warm welcome from Sparky the Fire Dog as they enjoyed the all new fire truck bounce house. The Lewisboro Police Department and the New York State Police with the assistance of the Mount Pleasant Police Department were also on hand to install and inspect child seats for parents. Firefighters provided attendees with plenty of food and refreshments throughout the day as community members gathered to enjoy the fall weather.
According to the 1st Assistant Chief this was the department's most well attended open house yet and they look forward to doing it again next year. The department would like to thank everyone that participated and made it such a success.
